In partnership with USA Volleyball, First Point Volleyball Foundation is proud to release the Match Point documentary produced by students at Ball State University.

About the Project

Match Point: The Rise of Boys’ and Men’s Volleyball follows First Point Volleyball Foundation Founder & US Men’s National Team Head Coach John Speraw, collegiate coach Nickie Sanlin and youth club director Ed Wrather on a journey through the state of men’s volleyball across the country. Along with several others, they discuss the opportunities men’s volleyball is presenting to the youth of America, the problems that the sport is facing and the goals of the Olympic qualifying U.S. Men’s National Team. The opportunities and problems within diverse and underserved communities in America is a highlighted point of interest within the film.

Match Point is also an organized, transmedia effort to bring awareness to the sport of boys’ and men’s volleyball in the United States. The “Match Point” campaign features a website, blog, social media presence, podcast, and gaming app. These channels of communication give people access to the sport of boys’ and men’s volleyball like never before.

The documentary was directed and filmed by students in the Departments of Journalism and Telecommunications at Ball State University. The transmedia campaign is being organized and implemented by graduate students from the Center for Emerging Media Design & Development at Ball State University. Executive producers are Dr. Adam Kuban and Dr. Jennifer Palilonis.

These projects were also developed in collaboration with First Point Volleyball Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for young men to develop as players and people by advancing and supporting boys’ and men’s volleyball across the nation.
